The retail real estate industry has undeniably witnessed significant changes and a constant transformation within the past several years.

As one of the hardest-hit sectors in the commercial property field, due to economic headwinds and the industry’s natural evolution, retail real estate has recently experienced a healthy resurgence.

Considering the recurrent retail closures in the space, industry professionals are working harder and smarter than ever, crafting the sector’s renaissance through creative strategies.

Examining the shifting preferences of consumers and acknowledging e-commerce’s growing customer base, professionals are seeking resourceful solutions to build business, acquire customers, create consumer retention, reinvest in stores and reinvent spaces.

Developers, investors and municipalities alike are seizing opportunities to revitalize communities through retail assets, across all product types. Professionals are securing carefully curated tenant mixes to re-energize dated properties, while breathing new life into vacant facilities through fresh, innovative uses. Placemakers have become all the rage, sparking an urban feel through mixed-use centers, while industry professionals work with online retailers to expand physical footprints.

Skilled individuals and organizations have been implementing their reviving efforts by owning, operating, promoting and managing these assets. Whether it be renovating shopping centers, marketing brick-and-mortar stores, obtaining retail tenants or meeting the residential demands for mixed-use developments, retail professionals are leveraging the sector’s aggressive pricing and creating new energy within the market.

Through ingenuity, efficiency and determination, these professionals have helped shape the retail real estate industry, continuing further innovation in the field, while proving that retail is not dead.

GlobeSt. Real Estate Forum is once again recognizing prominent names within the retail real estate community. We are seeking individuals, teams and companies who have had a recognizable and significant impact on the business. We are looking to honor these professionals by celebrating their achievements, whether it be their contributions to the industry, the vast successes in deal or project volumes, or the innovations and best practices they’ve introduced to the field, these are Commercial Real Estate’s Retail INFLUENCERS.

WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW

What information/data will I need to apply?

The complete nomination form, including all questions and word limits, is available for download here.

Please note that this is for preparation purposes only. The final nomination must be submitted online in the Nominate Now section.

Who may apply?

The form is open to any individual or organization whose primary business is in the retail real estate and related fields, such as law, research, design and consulting.

Can I nominate myself?

Yes. We accept self nominations as well as third-party submissions.

I was selected as an Influencer last year. Can I apply again this year?

To avoid redundancy, we try to vary the winners we profile year to year. However, this is limited to the type of nomination you are submitting. For instance, if your organization or team was selected as an Influencer last year, you may be nominated again as an individual.

Conversely, if you were previously selected as an individual Influencer, you may be nominated as part of a team or a company this year. In either case, the information submitted as part of your nomination must include updated details and not mirror the prior year’s nomination.

Oops! I realized I need to change something on my submission.

No problem! Click here to view or make a change to your entry.

How and when will winners be notified?

Editorial staff will send email notifications to the winners and submitters by March. Due to the high volume of nominations we receive, only those selected will be notified.

When will the issue come out?

GlobeSt. Real Estate Forum will profile the Retail Influencers in the May 2020 issue, which will be distributed in early May, as well as at the ICSC ReCon event. Influencers will also gain recognition on GlobeSt.com.

Is there a fee to apply?

No. Submission to this, and all of our editorial content, is free.

How do I increase my chances of being selected?

Be as descriptive, yet concise as possible. Sounds redundant, but it’s simple. Provide details on why you think your entry should be chosen as an Influencer, but leave out the fluff, like marketing content and self-congratulatory comments. We don’t mind reading long entries, but don’t hide the items of importance within pages of trivialities. Further, support your entry and statements with backup information—we love facts and figures—or additional files such as media coverage.
